When football star Roman Young arrives at the Inn in Wolfe Creek, Utah it's during a massive snow fall and the power's out. He's only there to check out the Inn he inherited from his uncle and sell it. He's not prepared to have someone with a shotgun threaten to shoot him because she thinks he's a squatter, but Roman adds it to the list of things that have gone wrong in his life the last couple of years--his injured knee, his cheating wife, and a car accident.
He's not ready for Katie Winters, with her red hair and green cat-like eyes. Roman thinks she's married because she wears a wedding ring, but finds out she's a widow with a young son. His Uncle Jim hired her to do work around the Inn before he got sick. She's a force to be reckoned with as she gives him a long list of supplies they need so they can accomplish all the work the Inn needs before it reopens in the Spring.
I liked Roman. He had made mistakes, some serious ones, but he was trying to get his life back on track and keep out of the media spotlight like his Uncle Jim had told him to do when he first started playing professional football. I felt sorry for Roman because his uncle kept his illness from him and told his attorney not to let Roman know about the funeral until after the playoffs. Roman had no control over that but the people in town treated him as if he hadn't cared about his uncle. That seems to be a common theme in books that take place in small towns. The prodigal son or daughter comes back and everyone treats them as if they know everything when more times than not they don't know the story.
I didn't like Katie at first. She was really hard on Roman when she didn't know that he didn't know about his uncle's illness and death until it was too late for him to do anything about it. She also had things to work through like Roman.
This is only my second book by this author and my first in this series. I got a free copy from and figured what did I have to lose if I didn't like it. I'm glad I took a chance on this story because I liked it. The author explains the title of the book in the story.
Last Play Book 1 Last Play Romance Series A Bachelor Billionaire Companion The Last Play Series is by Taylor Hart. This is the book that started the series. All of the main characters are major league game players of different sports. This reminds me of my Mother-in-law who loved sports- any sport, especially football.
Roman Young was the Dallas Destroyer’s quarterback although he hadn’t played in the final championship game due to his injury. However, it was sufficiently healed that he could have played; but the coaches didn’t let him. Instead Sam Dumont was given his position on the team and he had taken Roman’s positon as husband to Sheena. Roman just knew he had to leave. He had gotten word from an attorney that his Uncle Jim had died and had already been buried. Now, he was headed to the Alaskan Inn to visit before he sold it. Roman’s place was on the field.
Katherine (Katie) had been put in charge of getting the inn ready for occupancy. She was angry at Roman for not coming to the funeral until she learned the truth- Roman hadn’t known when it was. Katie was a single Mom bringing up her child and as long as Josh was happy, so was she. What chaos will Roman bring into her life?
This book is really cute. It makes for short but fun reading.
I love a good clean contemporary romance novel and this one fit the bill! Once I can stop running around and sit down at my computer I'll write a full review.
I've seen so many friend's reviews for books by Taylor Hart that I finally read one and really enjoyed it! I keep reading these emotional and thought provoking, heart wrenching(to some extent) novels and I thought this one will be a sweet, fun lighthearted read. For the most part, yes it was. But with some of the craziness of my life there were some aspects that hit close to home that I found myself very emotional during this read. I think I'll probably be that way with many books for a while to come. Lol! Don't let my saying that I was emotional from this one deter you if you are looking for a fast, fun, light read because I think if I wasn't experiencing some of the things I'm experiencing I wouldn't have been as emotional.
Warning, my time is short so this will just be a quick blurb and not anything too in depth, which I'm sure is just fine by many of you, but it's definitely not quite like my other reviews. ;)
Roman is a big shot Quarterback for a professional football team. He has had many ups and downs between his career and his personal life. His knee went out which caused him to be down for the final big game and his wife had an affair which led to their divorce. Roman's uncle and greatest supporter(his other family members are gone or nonexistent in his life) has recently passed away. Roman didn't find out until after it happened because his uncle didn't want him to feel torn between getting back in the game or leaving all his hard work behind to come take care of him. Roman flies out as soon as he hears and finds himself stuck in a snowed in town up in the mountains in Utah at his uncle's bed and breakfast inn. He hopes to sell but his first few minutes there throw him into the path of Katie. She is a spitfire and keeps him on his toes throughout the book. Katie has been the caretaker at the B&B and is trying to get Roman to help her get it up and running and remodeled.
This was just a sweet, clean, fast paced contemporary romance novel that I really enjoyed. I liked the author's explanation of the title, Last Play. Katie and Roman had a lot to work through emotionally on their own but were able to strengthen and help each other as they did so.
The ending was so cute! I loved it. Without spoiling it for anyone it had me smiling pretty big and I kinda giggled too. -D I'm definitely excited to try more of Taylor Hart's books, she has a fun, easy going writing style.
The book was clean with some mild kisses.
